Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger rubbishes “invention” report linking him with new two-year deal
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has staunchly denied reports he has been offered a new contract, describing them as an "invention".
The 66-year-old had been reported to have a two-year contract extension on the table, with owner Stan Kroenke keen for the manager to decide on his future before his existing deal expires at the end of the season.
Arsenal's failure to win the Premier League for 12 years has led some fans to demand Wenger be sacked, although recent protests at The Emirates calling for change were rejected by the majority in attendance.
Wenger, who will celebrate his 20th anniversary at the club next October, reacted angrily when asked of the report suggesting he was set to sign on for another two years.
"That's completely wrong," said the Frenchman. "I don't know where this information comes from. You can treat that as an invention.
"It is absolutely false, and I would like the press to check before they give this information out. They could have checked with the club and it would have been denied.
"I think about the next game. I have full commitment as long as I am under contract. For the moment that's all.
"The focus is to respect my contract. I have extended my contract at a period where it was vital for the club. I will see where I am personally and where the club stands."
