Donald Trump Vs Sadiq Khan: Billionaire appears to back down on Muslim ban following response from Mayor of London

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump appears to have backed down on his blanket ban on Muslims entering America after comments by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

Trump told Fox News that the ban was "just a suggestion" (though it didn't seem like that at the time), after Khan said that Trump's view of Islam was "ignorant".

Khan had previously expressed concern that if Trump became president then he would not be able to enter the US due to his faith, to which Trump said that Khan could be an "exception" to the rule.

The newly elected London mayor didn't want to be an exception, however, stating: "Donald Trump's ignorant view of Islam could make both our countries less safe. It risks alienating mainstream Muslims around the world and plays into the hands of the extremists."

That exchange prompted the latest twist in the saga, in which Trump said: "It's a temporary ban. It hasn't been called for yet. This is just a suggestion until we find out what's going on."

Trump's backtrack has come before his meeting with the Republicans most senior elected official, House Speaker Paul Ryan, who has so far been unwilling to endorse Trump.

That's not good news for Trump, given he's currently trying to unite the Republican party around him, which seems to want to distance themselves from him.
