US Presidential Election 2016: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump win big in New York primaries
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have moved one step further towards a one-on-one battle for the White House after big wins in the New York primaries.
Billionaire Trump looks set to win the state with just over 60 per cent of the vote. He was widely touted to win the state beforehand.
"I have to say to the people that know me the best – the people of New York – when they give us this kind of a vote it's just incredible," Trump said from Trump Tower.

Meanwhile, former New York senator Clinton has garnered just under 58 per cent of the vote.
She said: "New Yorkers, you've always had my back and I've always tried to have yours. Today together we did it again and I am deeply, deeply grateful."
The win puts more space between Clinton and Bernie Sanders, while Trump moves closer to collecting 50 per cent of Republican delegates.

That's important for Trump because if he does not win 50 per cent of delegates before the GOP National Convention, the Republican establishment could end up picking rival Ted Cruz as the nominee.
Trump is all too aware of that, having said the rules are rigged against him.
Cruz may have done better himself in New York had he not attacked Trump's "New York values" before the vote.
