Rolls-Royce set to announce 350 new jobs at its Derby operation

Rolls-Royce is set to announce that it will add 350 new jobs in the UK over the next year.

The engineering company's chief exec Warren East is meeting with MPs this week and will tell them the company aims to increase its workforce, a source said.

The extra roles will predominantly be based at the group's Derby assembly facility, and the figure of 350 includes some redeployment from other areas.

The company is adding to its workforce ahead of a ramp-up in production of the Trent XWB so as to deliver on £30bn worth of orders, a Rolls-Royce spokesperson said.

"Rolls-Royce is committed to the UK and we have announced well in excess of £400m of investment in new facilities here in the last couple of years alone, including £30m on the extension of our Trent XWB production facility in Derby," the spokesperson added.

The news follows an announcement earlier this month that Rolls-Royce is to cut a further 150 senior manager positions, having already slashed 50 senior manager roles in recent months. The firm is aiming to cut around 400 out of 2,000 positions in the coming years as part of an effort to save between £150-200m.
