A Leicester fan has been coerced by his wife into cashing in his bet on Leicester City winning the Premier League title early, making a £29,000 profit.

The Foxes fanatic from Leicester placed a £20 bet with William Hill at odds of 2,500/1 just a week after the opening round of fixtures and stood to win £51,600, but with nine games left to go he decided to cash in his winnings, scooping £29,788.

According to staff in the William Hill shop in central Leicester: “The punter has been in and out of the shop for the last three or four weeks seeing what his cash out value would be and finally on Monday he came in and told us that after discussions with his wife, he had to cash in.”

The bet, is the first to be cashed in on the Foxes winning the Premier League, meaning there are still 25 bets at 5,000/1 ranging from stakes of 5p to £20. Should Leicester win the Premier League, it could cost William Hill well over £2m.

William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: "Leicester are in possibly their strongest position of the season so far, yet it is now that people are starting to consider cashing out".

He added: “We could do with a few more taking the bait as a Leicester win could cost us a small fortune.”
