Boris Johnson is now the favourite to become the next leader of the Tory party as the world awaits his decision on whether he will back either the campaign to leave or remain in the EU.

The outgoing London mayor has jumped ahead of the chancellor George Osborne, according to the latest political betting odds from Ladbrokes.

Johnson is now 2/1 to replace David Cameron as the next permanent leader of the Tory party.

"The betting markets believe that Boris might make some difference to the Out campaign, but mostly that this improves his chances of succeeding Cameron at No 10," said Ladbrokes' Matthew Shaddick.

Odds on next Tory leader

Boris Johnson 2/1

George Osborne 3/1

Theresa May 8/1

Michael Gove 10/1

Sajid Javid 12/1

Priti Patel 16/1

Philip Hammond 25/1

Liam Fox 33/1
