Get out your glad-rags: City heavyweights have been shortlisted for the British LGBT Awards 2016

It's been called the "Gay Oscars" by loyal fans; the shortlist for this year's British LGBT Awards is now public, and London's financial firms are forerunners for a few gongs.

Shattering perceptions of stuffy conservatism, business leaders and global corporations including Barclays, Citi and Goldman Sachs have been shortlisted for accolades ahead of the big night at London's Grand Connaught rooms in May, with the whole thing sponsored by RBS.

In addition to the banking giants Clifford Chance, IBM, Accenture and Asda are also in the running for coveted prizes like "Employer of the Year".

So, which City bys and girls have caught the judges' eyes?

Dell Europe president Angus Hegarty, PwC partner Kevin Ellis, and Unilever chief exec Paul Polman have all been tipped for the "Straight Ally of the Year" award.

The biggest names in banking are no strangers to LGBT accolades. Goldman Sachs boss Lloyd Blankfein and JP Morgan's Jamie Dimon both made it onto the OUTstanding list of the top 10 straight allies of 2014.

It's not all corporate, of course. Celebs in the running for awards this year include TV's Alan Carr, Paul O'Grady and Sue Perkins, but with shadow business secretary Angela Eagle joining the judging panel, it's starting to look like diversity in the corporate world is talk of the town.
