Green-fingered shoppers and fans of a bargain rejoice. Poundland has joined forces with celebrity gardener and TV presenter Charlie Dimmock to create a new range of gardening tools, the retailer announced today.

The Charlie Dimmock range, which launches on 29 February, will feature 130 lines of gardening essentials ranging from hand tools and heavy duty gloves to hanging bird feeders and watering cans all priced at £1.

The collection is Poundland’s third celebrity tie-up after partnering with celebrity baker Jane Asher in 2013 and launching a range of DIY tools fronted by builder Tommy Walsh last year.

Dimmock said she has been completely involved in creating the range, personally testing every item to ensure both its practicality and quality. "I hope that my range will inspire a lot more people to take up gardening – even if it is just something straightforward like a window box or growing herbs on the kitchen window sill," she said.

The range could help give Poundland a much needed boost after the retailer posted disappointing Christmas sales and cut its full-year profit expectations, blaming volatile trading conditions.

Poundland chief executive, Jim McCarthy, said: “We’re delighted to announce our partnership with Charlie Dimmock. Our customers have told us that they would love to do more gardening, but the cost and sometimes the lack of experience really puts them off. We know that the introduction of this new range and with Charlie’s expertise, it will help encourage more people to take up gardening which is both affordable and enjoyable.
