Is this the best job in the world? Lego’s looking for model builders

If you've ever thought of giving it all up to pursue your dream job, it might just be the perfect time.

There are new openings for what just may be the best job in the world – building Lego for a living.

A new production facility in Florida is where hundreds of intricate Lego models become reality – from octopus to knights – and it's looking for staff, reports Quartz. You'd be responsible for the creations which go out to the various Lego theme parks around the world.

Think you're up to it? Think again. This is not just for big kids and the requirements Legoland owner Merlin Entertainments are looking for are quite specific.

You must have previous experience of building Lego models beyond what you did as a kid – that means an architectural or sculptural background. And an artistic flair is welcomed, though not essential.

The interview process is pretty tough too. There are multiple interviews and you'll have to build your own models demonstrating your ability with the bricks and some of that creativity.

What are the future prospects in such a job? It might start you off to becoming one of the world's elite "master builders". There are only 40 in the world. Or if you're really aiming for the top, there's an LCP. That's a Lego Certified Professional, of which there are only 12 in the world.

"Essentially, these twelve are international Lego 'ambassadors'; they are not Lego employees, and don’t get paid by the company, but enjoy a business to business relationship with them" writes Zachary Crockett of Priceonomics.

"Lego endorses their skills and gives them access to buy bricks in bulk; in return, they get to advertise the incredible works of art these individuals produce. As freelancers, LCPs are hired by corporations, brands, and private individuals to make custom sculptures, but a few are also highly respected artists who display their work in galleries across the world."

Living the dream.
