Robert Dyas Christmas advert wins weirdest ad of 2015 for “we’re gay, straight and bi” YouTube video

We've had John Lewis's Christmas advert bonanza, then the Man on the Moon spoof (from Aldi, who else), as well as the curveball surprise hit of the Christmas ad season (a Spanish lottery ad, if you missed it). Now, we have the winner of the title for weirdest ad of the year (and not just Christmas).

Of all places, it's Robert Dyas. That quite strange itself high-street shop owned by Dragon Theo Paphitis which sells everything from lightbulbs to hoovers.

Titled "We're Robert Dyas and we're gay. And straight. And bi…" the ad was published on its YouTube channel a few days ago, and has picked up more than a few comments since.

Featuring various members of staff talking about the gifts on offer this Christmas (drills, kitchen gadgets, wrapping paper) and how they're available to all gay and straight customers.

"Look at this Christmas tree" one staff member says. "It's perfect for a gay person. Or a straight person."

The world (mostly Twitter) just doesn't know what to make of it. It's a fine line between cringingly awful and spoof.

THIS IS NOT A SPOOF. I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A SPOOF. https://t.co/1YNl1dHiJp

Hi, I'm Tom. I'm straight and I watch this Robert Dyas ad because it's brilliantly jaw droppingly awful. https://t.co/y9xWw7QVlW

Now going to watch that Robert Dyas ad all day, like Alan Partridge directing the worst Apprentice task ad ever conceived. Comedy magic.

Okay what? Is this a joke or a oddly judged attempt at including the pink pound? I weirdly like it. #robertdyas https://t.co/zPnXjvX1Gm
