Rob Heineman, chief executive of the Sporting Club group which owns the American soccer franchise, was pictured at Goodison Park yesterday along with club representative Mike Illig.

Fans' speculation of an impending bid had been fuelled earlier in the week when Heineman retweeted a curious supporter asking if he would be watching Everton play this weekend.

Everton's AGM takes place next month where many fan shareholders could field questions about the club's future.

Since the Sporting Club group took over at Kansas City, the franchise has finished MLS champions once, league runners-up twice and cup winners twice.

The team enjoys sell-out crowds at its Sporting Park home while Heineman is also chief executive of Sporting Innovations, a technology business focusing on improving fan experience at sporting events.

Neither Sporting Club nor Everton immediately responded to comment when contacted by City PM
