Teenage girls the world over will be in mourning, no doubt, when they hear that former Bank of England economist Andrew Sentance has retired from notorious Square Mile rock group Rock in the City

Rock in the City are a stalwart of the financier pub scene, formed by a “motley group of City workers”, including Sentance and ex-MBA tutor Peter Cook, to play gigs for good causes – but those days are gone for Sentance.

The decision to leave the legendary group came last Saturday evening. A source close to the band said: “Apparently nine hours in a recording studio together was just too much.”

Sentance, who has kept quiet until today, told The Capitalist that there’s no hard feelings and Rock in the City lives on, but he himself is going solo: “I am going back to playing my acoustic guitar, writing songs and contributing to Christian music.

I’m now in my late 50s and – unlike leading performers like Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger – I don’t feel the need to go on and on into the rock sunset.” The Capitalist hopes for a reunion tour.
