Republican Presidential nominee frontrunner Donald Trump finally has a policy

Given multi-billionaire Donald Trump’s controversial comments about Mexican immigrants since the start of his Presidential campaign, it is perhaps not surprising that when he finally came out with a policy, it was on the issue of migration across the Mexican-American border.

Before yesterday's announcement, Trump’s campaign was said to lack any real policy substance, instead of which he had been accused of resorting to the claim he wanted to “make America great again”.

But Trump has now outlined three components to his immigration plan:

  1. A nation without borders is not a nation. There must be a wall across the southern border
  2. A nation without laws is not a nation. Laws passed in accordance with our constitutional system of government must be enforced
  3. A nation that does not serve its own citizens is not a nation. Any immigration plan must improve jobs, wages and security for all Americans

Most importantly, Trump wants to “make Mexico pay for the border”.

In short, the Mexican government has taken the United States to the cleaners," he explains on his website.

"They are responsible for this problem, and they must help pay to clean it up. We will not be taken advantage of any more."

Trump has also previously said he would rescind President Obama’s executive order to allow an estimated 5m illegal Mexican immigrants to remain in the US.

He has also condemned the US' nuclear deal with Iran claiming the agreement was a “bad deal” which would give Iran too much strength.
