Jeremy Corbyn is set to ease to victory in the contest for Labour leadership, a new poll reveals.

The hard-left Islington North MP can expect 53 per cent of the vote, 32 points ahead of his nearest rival.

In second place was health secretary Andy Burnham, who was far behind at 21 per cent, according to the poll conducted by YouGov for the Times.

Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper polled 18 per cent while Liz Kendall is predicted to get eight per cent of the vote.

YouGov president Peter Kellner said Corbyn could expect a “knockout victory”. He added: “I would personally be astonished if Mr Corbyn does not end up as Labour’s leader – but I have seldom released a poll with as much trepidation as I have done this time.”

The predicted landslide victory for Corbyn comes just two days before the deadline for members to sign up to vote.
