Chelsea are expected to solve their left-back conundrum this week by signing Ghana international Baba Rahman from German side Augsburg.

The Premier League champions are believed to have agreed an initial fee of £14m for the 21-year-old, plus around £6m in potential add-ons.

Rahman replaces Filipe Luis, who rejoined Atletico Madrid earlier this summer, and will provide competition for first-choice Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Blues have also appealed goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’s red card in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Swansea.

West Ham are close to completing the signing of former Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton on a free transfer.

The former Newcastle and Manchester City midfielder, 32, has been out of contract since the end of last season.

Stoke hope to make £12m Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri their 10th arrival of the transfer window.

Signing the 23-year-old Inter Milan midfielder, who left Bayern Munich in January, would be a major a coup for the Potters.
