US embassy in Nine Elms: Live next door to a £620m chunk of America

In the week US President Barack Obama finally got his own Twitter account, another piece of his government's new embassy in London fell into place. Since 1960s, the Americans have made a home for themselves in Grosvenor Square on the edge of Park Lane.

But they’re upping sticks and moving to Nine Elms, an enormous multi-billion pound regeneration site that sits on the banks of Battersea.

Occupying around five acres of the site, the £620m building won't be open until the end of 2016. In the meantime, developer Ballymore has been busy installing 2,000 new homes under the name Embassy Gardens on the remaining 15 acres, as well as new park that will link Vauxhall to Battersea Park.

Last week saw the completion of the aptly-named Ambassador Building, a collection of studio, one, two and three bedroom luxury apartments available for rent.

The All-American theme will continue inside the homes where interiors will take a leaf out of Mad Men's 1950s style-book, using upmarket materials like marble and walnut described by letting agent John & Co as “decadent urban chic”.

The rent will also include membership to the Eg:le Club, a private members’ space for tenants that will include a business centre, library, cinema, gym, spa, swimming pool, yoga and a dance studio.

Prices start from £435pw for a studio. To find out more, email [email protected] or call 020 7481 0600.
