Nicola Sturgeon “appalled” by Miliband and says Scotland will never forgive Labour if the Tories form a government

Nicola Sturgeon has launched a stinging attack on Ed Miliband saying she is "appalled" that Labour has ruled out doing a deal with SNP if the General Election produces a hung parliament.

Speaking on a special Question Time programme aired in Scotland, the First Minister said Scotland would never forgive Miliband if the Conservatives were allowed to form a government because Labour refused to work with the SNP.

During the Leaders' Question Time last night, Miliband said:

I am not going to have a Labour government if it means deals or coalitions with the Scottish National Party.

If it meant we weren’t going to be in government, not doing a coalition, not doing a deal, then so be it.

Miliband is travelling to Scotland today to warn voters that the Tories will slash child benefit and try to prevent a Labour meltdown north of the border. Jim Murphy has failed to halt the SNP advance despite promising a hsot of benefits to Scotland paid for by taxes largely levied in London.

The SNP have surged to an all-time high in the opinion polls with the latest STV News poll conducted by Ipsos Mori putting the SNP on 54 per cent – a massive 34 points ahead of Labour.

The Electoral Calculus website forecasts that if this poll was reflected on election day, Sturgeon's party would capture all 59 Scottish seats. The Tories have increased their support in Scotland by five points to 17 per cent, the poll suggests.
