A new film studio which will house the production of “Star Wars: Episode VII”, Marvel's “The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” and “Ant-Man”, opened in London yesterday.

The post-production studio has been set up by Industrial Light & Magic, an Oscar-winning visual effects company set up by George Lucas, in Soho.

The filming of “Star Wars: Episode VII”, which will be directed by JJ Abrams, is already underway at London’s Pinewood Studios. According to Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy, the film is just three weeks from completion.

Lucasfilm was bought out by Disney for $4bn in 2012.

In June, chancellor George Osborne revealed another Star Wars film – a spinoff from “Episode VII” will be filmed in London.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kennedy said the studio continued a “long tradition of 'Star Wars' movies being made in London.”

She said:

It goes back to 1976, and to know that we are no coming back and we will be making the movies once again based out of Pinewood, and now we’re looking to put together this studio, it’s rather remarkable that this has all come together in less than two years.
