MAJESTIC world No1 Serena Williams brutally dispatched a defenceless Caroline Wozniacki to claim a record-equalling sixth US Open title yesterday.

The 32-year-old cruised past Denmark’s Wozniacki 6-3, 6-3 in 75 minutes to secure her third successive Flushing Meadows crown and move level with Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert on 18 grand slam titles – four shy of Steffi Graf’s haul of 22 and six short of the legendary Margaret Court.

Wozniacki, seeded 10th, was appearing in her first major final since 2009 but had little answer to Williams, who failed to drop a set throughout the tournament.
