10 London startups named the hottest in Europe

Dinner delivery startup Deliveroo and and an artificial intelligence company acquired by Twitter have both been named among the hottest startups in Europe to emerge from London.

Top entrepreneurs and investors from across Europe have chosen the startups, along with a further eight, to compile a top 10 list of the capital's newest tech companies making a name for themselves, being talked about and going places.

The startups join the annual Wired 100 list published in the October issue of the magazine, alongside those from another nine top tech cities across Europe.

Meet the 10 hottest London startups in Europe…

1. Property Partner

From London's overheated property market has emerged this proptech startup which lets people buy a share of a buy-to-let house or flat, giving everyone access to a slice of the property boom.

2. Student.com

A marketplace for finding student accommodation has top backers including the founder of Spotify.

3. Babylon

The health app, shortlisted in last year's City PM awards, connects patients with doctors for a virtual consultation, as well as using AI to check symptoms.

4. Magic Pony

The under-the-radar startup specialising in artificial intelligence technology – one of the UK's hottest sectors right now – hit the big time and the front pages when it was acquired by Twitter for millions earlier this year.

5. Osper

Fintech for kids? This app teaches kids how to manage their finances in an increasingly cashless world 

6. Deliveroo

The simple idea to deliver food from restaurants which don't usually do takeaway has spawned an international business that recently entered unicorn territory with a billion dollar valuation. The cyclists making deliveries are now a familiar sight across the capital and beyond.

7. Winnow

This startup applies big data to solving the problem of food waste by changing the habits of businesses.

8. Improbable

Simulating worlds virtually, this startup offers modelling of real-life situations, from how the housing market works to the way the Internet of Things functions.

9. Carwow

​This startup flips car buying on its head, letting several dealerships make their best offer to the customer.

10. Grabble

An ecommerce app described by many as Tinder for fashion, taking the hassle out of shopping.
